At a recent Council meeting, Democrats Dan Hutchison and Frank Schmidt made a colossal error of judgment by casting a vote that would allow Trenton to take over Gloucester Township and make one of New Jersey's largest municipalities a ward of the dysfunctional state government.

When I was elected Mayor in 2006, I was elected Mayor of all Gloucester Township, not just those residents of our township who supported me. Since then, I have been a full-time, accessible Mayor with an open door policy. I pledged to the township that I would provide open, honest and transparent government, and I have kept my promise.
I have reached out and met with community organizations, and I have established "Walk and Talk" visits in neighborhoods throughout the Township so residents could meet with me and express their needs, concerns, and suggestions on ways to improve our community.
As Mayor, I have worked to streamline government by being more accountable, efficient, and service-oriented. When I was elected Mayor in 2006, I voluntarily froze my salary for the length of my term and refused to accept the customary Mayor's vehicle.
The Democrats on Council have placed an unfair and unreasonable tax burden on the residents of our community. That's why, as Mayor, I founded the Mayor's Task Force on Property Tax Reform.
In these tough times, we need experienced leaders who will work with me on behalf of all Gloucester Township. That is why I am so proud to have on my team Councilwoman Shelley Lovett, former Councilwoman Maureen McLaughlin, and former Black Horse Pike Regional School Board President John Custodio.
We will work tirelessly to bring our township together again, and with your help we will be successful.
With pride in Gloucester Township,
Mayor Cindy Rau-Hatton
